Israel Keyes lived in five states and visited 21 more, lived in two countries and traveled to seven. He had a habit of disappearing after his crimes and reappearing hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Figuring out his whereabouts on a given day is a daunting task indeed.
Thankfully, our researchers enjoy a challenge.
Most of the information is hidden within the 3,599 pages of the FBI Vault. Many of the travel records in the vault do not pertain to him. Israel and his ten-year-old daughter lived with a woman we will call “Anchorage girlfriend” (our site will not post the names of any of his living associates), who frequently traveled to other states for work. He often visited her during these business trips. Her name and his daughter’s name are redacted in the file; his name is not. We have made logical inferences based on this and other contextual clues.
